ELA/Vocabulary:
We were challenged with new vocabulary words each week. 10 new words enriching our word knowledge. It is important to learn new words every time because it plays an important role in learning to read and understand the things we are reading. We also did Mentor Sentences. In Mentor Sentences, Ms. Paterson taught us about nouns, verbs, pronouns, etc.as well as sentence structures.
History
Last month, we learned all about the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR). This taught us the basic human rights for each individual, such as being able to have clean water, a good education, food, safety, and a roof over their head.
Regions:
We learned about the six different regions in the United States. Six groups presented and transported us to the Northeast, Southeast, Midwest, Northwest, Southwest, and the West regions. We learned about their weather, resources, culture, landmarks and important people who were born in the region. In the end, everyone had to vote which region they liked best. The Southeast region emerged as the class favorite.
Classroom Economy:
Also this month we started the Classroom Economy. Students applied and were hired for a specific job. Many students has been rewarded for hard work, good behavior and performance. While there were some who has been fined for poor choices. The first auction was held last October 1 and was a success. Many students were able to buy and sell handmade items.
