The Road to the Revolution
|
"Give me Liberty or Give Me Death"
Our Founding Fathers along with many brave men and women fought, not too long ago, for FREEDOM and INDEPENDENCE from Great Britain. They fought for the freedoms that we, as United States citizens freely enjoy today. Along with declaring independence for ourselves, it allowed the United States to form a Government that allow the People to have a voice "A Government for the People, By the People." In doing so, we were able to create the Bill of Rights, our most valuable and important rights and allow it to become a working document that can and has been amended over the years, as we have continued to change and grow. Without this, we would not be the unique and wonderful country we are today. |

Road to the Revolution Costume Ideas:
Dear Families,
Your students have been working diligently on putting together their scripts and learning their songs for their Road to the Revolution unit. Another piece of the process is costume making. While the colors worn by the British (Redcoats) were red, white, and tan (brown), the colonists were farmers and merchants who often wore blue, white, and tan (or brown). Attached above are some images of costumes pieces that have been made in the past. They are meant to be simple.
To make coats, you can purchase dress shirts from Goodwill (They’re inexpensive.). You want to buy dress shirts in adult sizes so they look like coats on the students.
To add a lapel, you may simply buy felt (from Michaels) and glue it onto the jacket (with fabric glue). You can purchase buttons to put on top of the lapels.
Satchels need to be made for those students developing battle scenes. Those students need to have at least two satchels. They can easily be made from felt (The picture above is made from felt and staples).
For pants, students may either wear solid colored sweats or leggings that they can roll up. They can pair these with knee-high socks and black shoes.
Your students may opt to create wigs or purchase them to go along with their costumes. Girls with long hair can simply tie their hair in a low pony.
With that in mind, many of these things can be made with things lying around the house. You can find YouTube tutorials to help. If you would like to purchase pre-made costumes for your children, you are more than welcome to. If you need any help with purchasing or finding resources, please let me know! I am more than happy to help!
